Radiation Questions - June 2023
Beaumont Ethics (Medical Research) Committee released an updated version of the Supplementary Radiation Applicaton Form for use when applying for a single national opinion for a research study involving exposure to medical ionising radiation from this committee.
The form now refers to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Notification from Department of Health
The Department of Health had previously notifiied the committee on the 3 May 2023 that it is now recognised under S.I. No. 29/2023 - European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising From Medical Exposure To Ionising Radiation) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 to give a single national opinion for studies which involve exposure to medical ionising radiation.
Section 40 (2) names the following research ethics committees as currently recognised for the purposes of these Regulations: -

- Clinical Research Ethics Committee of the Cork Teaching Hospitals
- Galway University Hospitals
- Mater Misericordiae University Hospital / Mater Private Hospital
- St. Vincents Healthcare Group
- University of Limerick Hospitals
- Beaumont Hospital REC
- HSE South Eastern Area
- HSE North East
- National Maternity Hospital (Holles Street)
- Irish College of General Practitioners
- St. Lukes Radiation Oncology REC
